Gate to the world – Vääksy canal 150 years

The Vääksy canal in Asikkala connects Päijänne and Lake Vesijärvi. In 2021 was 150 years since the channel was completed. The book deals with the history of the canal, its traffic, and the design and construction of the canal environment as it is known today.

The publication is aimed at anyone interested in water transport, tourism, history and the built environment in general. Old photographs evoke memories, and the articles provide a wealth of information about Vääksy's past and present. The work tells how the canal was born and changed the life of one keeper and how that heritage is nurtured.
